Prescribed by a physician (cardiologist, gastroenterologist, or hepatologist) for the following conditions:

• 🔹 Hypercholesterolemia: Primary hypercholesterolemia (as an adjunct to diet for the reduction of elevated serum cholesterol).
• 🔹 Pruritus: Itching associated with partial biliary obstruction or primary biliary cirrhosis.
• 🔹 Bile Acid Diarrhea: Chronic diarrhea associated with bile acid malabsorption (e.g., post-cholecystectomy syndrome, short bowel syndrome).

Sales Unit: Carton box containing 10 sachets of powder for oral suspension. Strength: 4 grams of Cholestyramine per sachet.

⚠️ APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

• ⛔ STRICTLY PROHIBITED: Never take the dry powder alone (it may provoke choking or esophageal spasm)!
• Preparation: Pour the contents of 1 sachet into a glass (100-150 ml) of water, juice, or mix with highly fluid soups or pulpy fruits (like applesauce). Stir vigorously to create a uniform suspension.
• Standard Dosage: Typically starts with 1 sachet 1 to 2 times daily. The dose may be increased by a doctor if necessary (up to 4-6 sachets per day).
• ✋ Crucial Drug Interaction Rule: Cholestyramine can bind to other medications and prevent their absorption. Take other drugs at least 1 hour before or 4 to 6 hours after taking Olestar.

• ⛔ Complete Biliary Obstruction: Ineffective if no bile is secreted into the intestine.
• Bowel obstruction.
• Hypersensitivity to Cholestyramine or any excipients.
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding (use with caution, as it may interfere with the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins).

Because it is not absorbed systemically, side effects are primarily gastrointestinal:

• 💩 Gastrointestinal: Constipation is the most common side effect (patients should increase fluid and fiber intake). Also bloating, flatulence, nausea.
• 🩸 Vitamin Deficiency: Long-term use of high doses may interfere with the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K).
• 🛡️ Other: Perianal irritation (rarely).
