Prescribed by hepatologists for the treatment of adult patients with:

• 🔹 Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC):
  • In combination with Ursodeoxycholic Acid (UDCA) for adults with an inadequate response to UDCA.
  • As monotherapy for adults unable to tolerate UDCA.

Sales Unit: Bottle containing 30 film-coated tablets (10 mg strength). Supply for 30 days.

⚠️ APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

• Standard Dosage: Typically titrated from 5 mg, but the maintenance dose is 10 mg (one tablet) taken once daily.
• Administration: Take at approximately the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow whole with water.
• Hepatic Impairment: Patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh B or C) require a modified dosing schedule (consult a doctor immediately).
• ✋ Missed Dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double up.

• ⛔ Complete Biliary Obstruction: Strictly contraindicated.
• Decompensated cirrhosis (e.g., prior ascites or variceal bleeding).
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding (use only if clearly needed and prescribed).
• Hypersensitivity to Obeticholic Acid.

The most common side effect is pruritus (itching), which is dose-dependent. Potential side effects include:

• 🐜 Skin: Pruritus (severe itching) — very common. Management may require dose reduction or antihistamines.
• 💤 General: Fatigue, tiredness.
• 🤢 Gastrointestinal: Abdominal pain, constipation, discomfort.
• 🔶 Liver: Potential for worsening liver function in advanced disease (regular monitoring required).
• 🧠 Other: Dizziness, arthralgia (joint pain).
