Prostaxen (Apalutamide) Tablets
Prostaxen 60 mg (Apalutamide) is an oral androgen receptor inhibitor utilized in the treatment of prostate cancer.
Manufacturer: Everest Pharmaceuticals. Each pack contains 30 tablets. It works by blocking the effect of androgens (male hormones like testosterone) on the tumor, preventing cancer cells from growing and spreading.
Mechanism:
It binds directly to the ligand-binding domain of the androgen receptor, inhibiting nuclear translocation and DNA binding, leading to tumor cell death.
Indicated for the treatment of adult men with:
- ๐น Non-metastatic Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer (nmCRPC): Patients whose cancer no longer responds to medical or surgical treatment that lowers testosterone but has not yet spread to other parts of the body.
- ๐น Metastatic Castration-Sensitive Prostate Cancer (mCSPC): Cancer that has spread to other parts of the body and still responds to treatment that lowers testosterone.
Packaging: 60 mg tablets.
โ ๏ธ ADMINISTRATION PROTOCOL:
- Recommended Dose: 240 mg administered orally once daily.
- Pill Count: Taking 4 tablets of 60 mg at the same time.
- Timing: Take once daily, at approximately the same time each day.
- Administration: Swallow tablets whole. Can be taken with or without food.
- Missed Dose: If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible on the same day. Resume normal schedule the next day. Do not take extra tablets to make up the missed dose.
- Hypersensitivity to Apalutamide.
- Women (specifically pregnant or breastfeeding women).
- History of seizures (use with caution).
- Severe renal or hepatic impairment.
Common adverse reactions include:
- ๐ฉธ Physical: Severe fatigue, hot flushes, weight loss.
- ๐ Dermatologic: Skin rash (maculopapular), itching.
- ๐ Risks: Hypertension, increased risk of falls and fractures.
- โ ๏ธ Monitoring: Thyroid function should be monitored as hypothyroidism can occur.
