X-Vir 0.5 (Entecavir) 0.5 mg — 30 Tablets
X-Vir 0.5 mg is a potent antiviral nucleoside analog. Active ingredient: Entecavir (0.5 mg).
Manufacturer: Natco Pharma (India). Generic equivalent of Baraclude.
⚠️ DOSAGE ALERT: 0.5 MG STRENGTH
This box contains 0.5 mg tablets. This is the standard dose for "nucleoside-naive" patients (those who have not developed resistance to Lamivudine).
Note: Patients with Lamivudine-refractory Hepatitis B usually require the higher 1 mg dose. Please verify your prescription.
✅ Goal: Suppresses viral replication to undetectable levels and improves liver histology.
Indicated for the treatment of Chronic Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in adults with:
- Evidence of active viral replication.
- Evidence of persistent elevations in serum aminotransferases (ALT or AST) or histologically active disease.
Standard Dose: One tablet (0.5 mg) once daily.
⚠️ CRITICAL ADMINISTRATION RULE (Empty Stomach):
Food significantly decreases the absorption of Entecavir. You must take it on an empty stomach:
- 🚫 At least 2 hours after a meal.
- 🚫 And at least 2 hours before the next meal.
- Hypersensitivity to Entecavir.
- HIV Co-infection: Should not be used in HIV/HBV co-infected patients who are not also receiving highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART), due to the risk of HIV drug resistance.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Generally well tolerated. Potential issues include:
- Headache, fatigue, dizziness, and nausea.
- Lactic Acidosis: A rare but serious metabolic complication.
- Severe Acute Exacerbation: Hepatitis B may worsen significantly if treatment is discontinued abruptly. Do not stop taking X-Vir without medical advice.
