Taffic (Bictegravir/Emtricitabine/Tenofovir) 30 Tablets
Taffic is a complete Single Tablet Regimen (STR) for HIV treatment. Contains: Bictegravir (50 mg) + Emtricitabine (200 mg) + Tenofovir Alafenamide (25 mg).
Manufacturer: Hetero Healthcare (India). Generic equivalent of the top-tier drug Biktarvy.
The Gold Standard:
Taffic combines a potent integrase inhibitor (Bictegravir) with two NRTIs. It is known for its high barrier to genetic resistance (very hard for the virus to mutate against it) and excellent safety profile for kidneys and bones thanks to the TAF component.
✅ Benefit: One small pill, once a day, no boosters needed.
Indicated for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and adolescents:
- Treatment-naïve patients: Starting therapy for the first time.
- Virologically suppressed patients: Replacing a current stable antiretroviral regimen (switching for better tolerability).
Standard Dosage: One tablet taken orally once daily.
⚠️ Administration:
- Can be taken with or without food.
- Swallow the tablet whole.
- Adherence is key: Do not miss doses to prevent resistance.
Note on Vitamins: Take Taffic at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after taking antacids containing aluminum/magnesium or iron supplements.
- Drug Interactions: Do not use with Dofetilide or Rifampin (significantly decreases Taffic levels).
- Hypersensitivity to any active substance.
- Severe hepatic impairment.
Taffic is one of the best-tolerated HIV medications available. Potential mild side effects:
- Headache.
- Diarrhea or Nausea.
- Fatigue.
- HBV Warning: Patients with HIV/Hepatitis B coinfection should be monitored closely, as stopping the drug may cause Hepatitis B exacerbation.
